Just a few minutes ago, I received an email from Ancestry.com's copyright attorney office, as a follow-up to an email I had sent them. First, they made sure I was aware that the Internet Biographical Collection has been removed from their service, and that the removal is permanent.
At the same time they stated, "we appreciate your patience and apologize for the inadvertant [sic] use of your blog."
I immediately took a look at the 24-7 Family History blog, and discovered a post by Kendall Hulet, who is product manager at Ancestry.com. His post stops just short of a real apology, but his post does seem genuine to me, and he states "we’ve removed this product with no intention of re-releasing it."
He also indicates that if they attempt to create a similar product, "we will seek your input and talk more with community leaders to make sure we get it right."
I am satisfied with this. I am moving on.
Janice

Ole Sam Walter Foss can probably put the best words on this here situation (two lines from "The Milking Of The Cow" out of BACK COUNTRY POEMS. 1894.):
There was peace and glad contentment both within us and without us, At the sweet mellifluous milking of the cow. Yep, Ole Sam said it good. Willie Puckerbrush Re: Re: Ancestry.com's Internet Biographical Collection Removed Permanently

Janice,
I'm really happy to hear that you received a response and an APOLOGY from the management of Ancestry! And those are certainly encouraging words from Mr. Hulet. I've posted my "final" thoughts on the subject as well. Now I hope I can settle in and get back to what I really enjoy - researching and writing about my ancestors and their families! Guess I need to find out more about Ole Sam Walter Foss too! Well said, Willie. Re: Re: Ancestry.com's Internet Biographical Collection Removed Permanently

Beck,
Sam Walter Foss was very famous for his time, and considered a "Poet of the People." I guess his writing just wasn't flowery enough for others, and so alas he fell into obscurity, until he was resurrected, kicking and screaming by T..... errr.. Willie and myself (big grin). Poobah, you trouble maker! :D :D
Poor Bessie the Cow wasn't riled.. more like confused and nauseous from being hogtied and dragged outside of her usual stall. She lost her sunglasses and beach ball in the struggle, but she is just so happy to be home that all she wants to do is rest and chew her cud. Craig,
I give credit to you and all of the other bloggers who voiced their concerns right along with me over this matter, and were supportive of our property rights. Collectively I think me made an important point. Once, as a group, we realized that Ancestry.com was listening, and responding, no one went "Napoleonic" and started making grandiose demands. Once the database was removed, as far as I can tell, everyone appears to be forgiving, and willing to take their public statements at face value. This proves a high maturity level among our blogging friends. I'll admit there were times when I was feeling a bit heated over the topic, but I hope that I balanced my upset with providing accurate descriptions of what was going on. Thank you for your kind comments. Janice Trackbacks
