Your Pennichuck Chuck pix reminds me of a plan I had a while back. Someone should run all of the state's mascots in a race for king of the mascots, or dominant mascot or something. Between the many sports franchises, old, new and school based, and a few other ones like Chuck and the Red Spotted Newt, there would be quite a list. If there was a competition with an award that was given out each year, it might even give birth to some new mascots. I'd be happy just to see a good catalogue of the existing ones, with their pictures, their missions, and, where relevant, their super powers listed.

Rick,
What a great idea!! I've never seen a book, or a web site, about New Hampshire's mascots (collectively)... so maybe its overdue. The contest idea intrigues me! As far as I can tell, Chucks only super-power is philanthropy. J Re:Pennichuck Chuck

Janice,
Commenting on an old post is probably note the best place to get in touch with you but, since you found the idea interesting, I thought I should update your blog on the progress of the list of costumed mascots. I had an intern work on the concept and she has found dozens of them, with contact information and a note regarding the availability of photos. Looks like the mascots may soon have a homepage of their own. I'll keep you posted. -- Rick Re: Re:Pennichuck Chuck

Rick,
Thanks for letting me know. I've been maintaining a memo file and updating it whenever I run across a mascot. Your intern will probably come up with a larger list than I have, and I am nowhere close to being ready to write an article yet. Once the article is done, where will it be posted? Online, or in the magazine? Janice Trackbacks
