I know exactly what you mean, Janice. My mother and both of my grandmothers are gone. I would love to have them back, even for one more day.

Beautiful tribute and lovely pictures Janice!

Like you, I'm remembering my mom this year and wishing she were still here so I could give her a hug and a kiss and tell her that I love her just one more time (even if she wouldn't have appreciated it). Last year Mother's Day came just 2 weeks after my mom died and the pain and grief was still too fresh for me to celebrate the day. Today I will be with family and friends as we celebrate with my dear mother-in-law. But I'll stop at the cemetery with flowers for my mom too.

Thanks for stopping by to read and leave a note. I was with my mom when she passed last year. It wasn't until I posted the photograph for THIS post that I realized how much she looked like her own mother (my Gram). As a gift to my mother on Mother's Day LAST year, I finally engraved the cemetery stone where she is buried with HER name, plus my Dad's and my baby brother Michael's name. She couldn't find the strength to add their names herself, as there was an element of finality to that.

I think that the kindest thing we can do for ourselves THIS mother's day is to start FRESH today, realizing that we cannot change what is past, and to celebrate the "positive" part of our maternal heritage. Our mothers were people first, with failings that is true. But we loved them nonetheless.

Thanks for the kindly comment. Actually most of the time my mom was a "stealth" photographer taking alot of photographs and saving them ALL! She had her handy camera around, and was taking photographs close to the time she passed. There was not a year, nor a family event that was not captured on film, or electronically (she loved the new digital cameras, and had TWO!).
