If you are called Liam, Patrick, Kathleen or Sheila, or have a surname like Ryan, Gallagher, Grady or Mannion;
If you wear your Irish pride, a shamrock on your lapel, or a spud around your neck;
If the words pub, claddagh, and leprechaun, roll easily off your tongue;
If you were ever an altar boy, said your rosary, or carried holy water wid ya;
If you prefer a cuppa (tea), raising your pint, or Irish whiskey;
If you know St. Patrick's story of driven snakes, or mournful tales of famine houses and emigrant wakes;
If you've ever used the words banshee, conundrum, blarney, or hooligan; or not.
If even a wee bit of your spirit is lively; if you like to tell tall tales; or if you simply like the color green....
Then You are officially Irish.
"Beannachtam na Feile Padraig!"
Happy St. Patrick's Day (in advance!)**
Janice
P.S. This greeting is posted as my submission to the Carnival of Irish Heritage and Culture.
P.P.S. **Did anyone else notice how the customary day was changed this year? Normally St. Patrick's Day falls on March 17th each year. This year it was changed to March 15th by the Roman Catholic Church to avoid conflict with Holy Monday that falls on 3/17.
And if you are wondering about the identities of the Irish dancers in the video....
they are myself, fM of Footnote Maven, Charlotte of Apple's Tree, Jasia of Creative Gene, and Terry of Hill Country of Monroe County Mississippi.

You've made me a star! I've always wanted to do some Irish step dancing on stage (well, OK, not really always but at least since I first saw Riverdance ;-) ! I must say, I'm one terrific dancer... and I dance pretty well in the video too! LOL! Seriously, I took dance lessons (jazz, modern, tap, Polka, ballroom) for years and I love to get out on the dance floor and boogie down. Your video is such a treat Janice! Thanks so much for including me in it. I'm going to send my kids to your blog to see it (or maybe I'll even borrow it for my own blog if you don't mind) just so I can hear them laugh and groan!!!
Thanks J! You made my day! Re: Re: Raising Your Pint to St. Patrick...

Jasia,
I took ballroom dancing, but no way could I "riverdance"! If you need the coding for the direct link just send me an email! Glad you smiled! Janice Re: Raising Your Pint to St. Patrick...

JB, You've elevated me to "superstar" status. Never have my bird-legs looked so good and never have I had such a covey of lassies like you and all those others to dance with all at once. But didn't we all have fun doing what I call "Hill Country Creek Dance?" What fun; what energy; and all in time for Saint Patrick's Day too. Thanks for the laugh.

Terry,
The scene reminded me a bit of "Lords are Leaping" in the famous Christmas poem.... Yes! Lets call this the Hill Country Creek Dance lol Janice Re: Raising Your Pint to St. Patrick...

Sometimes, heck often, I'm sorry that I haven't found any Irish ancestors.
Terry looks pretty good in tights -he's lost more wieght than I thought! Good show - and are those newly revealed pictures of Janice and Jaisa? I haven't seen them before... Cheers -- Randy Re: Re: Raising Your Pint to St. Patrick...

Randy,
Jasia and I have appeared before, as Christmas elves or in snowball fights. Apparently you missed those movies. And I agree Terry looks good in tights :D :D <--- cute grin Janice Re: Raising Your Pint to St. Patrick...

Wow! That was fun!
Makes me wish more than ever that I had some Irish relatives. BUT, I have used all of those words--banshee, conundrum, blarney, and hooligan--and green is second only to red as my favorite color. I'm also fairly fond of a splash of Bailey's in my coffee--so that counts, right? Happy St. Paddy's day, and thanks for the fun. Re: Re: Raising Your Pint to St. Patrick...

Debra,
Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. This year we have two days--the usual date it is celebrated (March 17th) and the new Catholic Church designated date (March 15th). Pick one, wear green, and an Irishman will adopt you! :D Janice Trackbacks
